If you have water or flood damage from the storms that began on January 7th, report it!
Why? If we can show that Cowlitz County sustained substantial damage, our community MAY be eligible for low cost loans or federal grants to cover uninsured losses to public and private property. We all benefit from these funds. They can be used to repair public roads, fix private residences, and help businesses recover economically.
Who? Anyone that has had damage to their property in Cowlitz County, like a home, business, or personal belongings, should report it.
When? The deadline for initial reporting is January 15th. IF Cowlitz County is qualified for the federal assistance programs, it may be weeks more before we know. If you make repairs in the mean time, document everything, include pictures if you can, and save all estimates and receipts.
What happens next? Cowlitz County Department of Emergency Management (DEM) compiles all of the information and sends it on to the State. The State makes an appeal on our behalf to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Providing your information does NOT automatically register you for help from FEMA. Homeowners and businesses will be invited to apply directly for benfits if they are approved.
How? You can report damages at the DEM website---www.co.cowlitz.wa.us/DEM (forms are available now). If you do not have internet capability, call Cowlitz County DEM, Monday, January 12th through Thursday, January 15th, 8:00-5:00pm (360) 577-3130.
